West Virginia 95, Howard 49
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Redshirt senior guard Te’Shya Heslip poured in a season-high 25 points as the Howard women’s basketball team dropped a 95-49 decision to No. 21/25 West Virginia on Tuesday night at WVU Coliseum.
Along with scoring 51 percent of Howard’s total points, Heslip added five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. She also went 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
Seniors Jasmine Hill and Sydni Johnson had six and five points, respectively. Redshirt junior Erin Blaine and freshman Star Fitzgerald-Greer pulled down five rebounds each. 

 

 

Savannah State 54, Alabama State 39
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Kenyata Hendrix led the Savannah State University women’s basketball team with 17 points as the Lady Tigers (2-1) defeated Alabama State University (0-3) 54-39 in Tiger Arena Tuesday night.
Hendrix shot 5-for-9 from the floor and added three rebounds, two blocks, a steal and a assists, while senior center Tiyonda Davis added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting with nine rebounds, six blocks, four steals and two assists.
Senior forward Jeremica Edwards added 11 rebounds, eight points and two steals, while Lauren “Gaby” Moss added eight points and three rebounds.
The Hornets were led by Daniele Ewert with 11 points, Tatyana Calhoun with eight points and seven rebounds and Britney Wright with seven points and six rebounds.

 

 

Coastal Carolina 66, North Carolina Central 50
 CONWAY, N.C. – Senior guard Morgan Jones poured in a game-high 18 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team in a 66-50 non-conference road loss at Coastal Carolina University Tuesday night.
The Chanticleers held the Lady Eagles scoreless for over five minutes in both the first and fourth quarters to clinch their first win. Coastal Carolina (1-1 Overall) shot 40.3-percent from the floor while holding NCCU (0-2) to just 27.3-percent.
Jones made four 3-pointers en route to her game-high 18 points and her nine boards was a career-high total. She was one rebound shy of her first career double-double.
Sophomore guard Dominique Adams scored nine points for the Lady Eagles and freshman forward Erin Houser netted a pair of 3-pointers for six points. Junior forward Kierona Morton grabbed eight boards and sophomore forward Deja McCain filled up the box score with five points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and two block shots.

 

 

 

Norfolk State 99, Saint Augustine’s 59
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women’s basketball used a balanced attack with six players in double figures in a 99-59 victory over Saint Augustine’s in the Spartans’ home opener Tuesday night at Echols Hall.
The Spartans (1-1) recorded their largest margin of victory since a 95-55 win over Delaware State on Feb. 23, 2015.
Senior guard Kiara Phillips recorded a game-high 18 points, while junior guard Gabrielle Swinson tallied a career-high 14 points. Freshman Tyona Moses also notched 14 points in her first collegiate game.
Senior forward Khalilah Ali, senior guard Jordan Strode and junior forward Kayla Roberts all registered double-doubles. Strode followed up her 14-point performance in the season opener with 13 points, 10 rebounds while adding four assists, two steals and one block. The 10 rebounds is her career high and the double-double is the first of her career.
Ali registered 11 points and 11 rebounds with two assists, two blocks and one steal. Roberts tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
