MSU's Rasean Simpson selected in NBDL Draft

BALTIMORE, Md. – Former Morgan State Bear Rasean Simpson was selected by the Santa Cruz Warriors in the 2016 NBA D-League Draft.

Simpson was taken with the 2nd pick of the 5th round by Santa Cruz, which is the official D-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.

The San Diego native was the fourth player that the Warriors took in the draft, following Jaleel Roberts (2nd, first round), LaDontae Henton (10th, first round), and Keith Steffeck (1st, fourth round). Santa Cruz opted to forgo their remaining two selections in the fifth and sixth rounds, respectively.

Simpson was present for Santa Cruz’s player workout in Oakland earlier this month.

He completed his senior season with Morgan State by starting in 21 of 25 games played. He averaged 12.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg (ranked No. 10 in MEAC) and shot 48 percent from the field (9th in MEAC). Simpson was also among the league’s leaders in steals where he ranked No. 5 (1.5 spg).
