ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. – The Wildcats grabbed a pair of wins on Saturday as Bethune-Cookman Bowling continued its participation as part of the FDU New Jersey Jamboree at Parkway Lanes. With two of three days of competition complete – as hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bethune-Cookman is currently 20th out of the 27-team field in total pin count.
After posting a 2-3 record in the opening day of Baker match play on Friday, Bethune-Cookman turned around for traditional play Saturday with five matches on tap.
Bethune-Cookman (7-16) began the day with a 937-841 setback against Wisconsin-Whitewater. In that match, it was senior Ivory Miles delivering a game-high 191 for the Maroon and Gold.
However, B-CU bounced back to claim an 810-745 decision from fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent Morgan State. Leading the way in that game for the Cats was freshman Nia McConico with a 183, followed closely by Krysta Coleman with a 181.
Chestnut Hill College claimed a hard-fought 817-807 victory from Bethune-Cookman in the third match of the day for the Wildcats. Seniors Miles (182) and Coleman (181) were the statistical leaders for the Cats in that match.
B-CU would fall to Jackson State by a slim 856-845 decision in its next matchup, but it was Coleman leading the charge with a team tournament-high 211 in that contest.
The Wildcats picked up an 860-716 win from Felician University in the final match of the day, ending the day on a high note for B-CU and Coleman – producing a 207-game in the victory.
The tournament concludes Sunday with a tournament at 9 a.m. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion. The 27 teams will be seeded based on the performance on Friday and Saturday.
Host Fairleigh Dickinson leads the pack in pin count with 9,733 total pins across two days, and will hold the top seed in the bracket tournament. The Knights are followed by Sam Houston State (9,724) with the No. 2 seed, and LIU-Brooklyn (9,455) as the No. 3 seed.
Bethune-Cookman will own the No. 20 seed as the Cats have produced 8,327 pint in 10 total matches.
