MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY VOLLEYBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Norfolk State senior Jessica Johnson and Howard sophomore Courtney Dalton were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Volleyball Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Jill Aquino earned Setter of the Week honors, while Mere Serea, of Maryland Eastern Shore was selected Defensive Specialist of the Week. Teammate Ivana Blazevic was named Rookie of the Week.

Johnson (OH, 5-10, r-Sr., Land O’Lakes, Fla.) averaged 4.75 kills per set and 19.0 kills per match against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. She posted a double-double of 20 kills and 12 digs in four sets against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Dalton (OH, 5-11, So., Piscataway, N.J.) totaled 18 kills, while hitting .515, and four blocks in wins over Morgan State and Coppin State. She hit .650, with 13 kills, in a three-set victory over Coppin State.

Blazevic (S, 6-0, Fr., Zagreb, Croatia) averaged 9.6 digs per set and 32.6 assists per match against VCU, Norfolk State and Hampton. She recorded two straight double-doubles of assists and digs in the three matches, including a 36-assist, 13-dig performance in a four-set win over Norfolk State.

Aquino (S, 5-8, Fr., Stafford, Texas) totaled 79 assists, 25 digs, three kills, three blocks and three service aces against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. She tallied a double-double of 41 assists and 18 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Serea (MB, 6-3, Sr., Suva, Fiji) finished with 17 total blocks, including seven solo stops, against VCU, Norfolk State and Hampton.  She also helped Maryland Eastern Shore hold Hampton to a .122 hitting percentage in a four-set win.

 

Other Top Performers

Lucia Babic (MDES) recorded six service aces, the most for any Hawk since November 2015, in a win over Hampton.

Valiyah Barnes (CSU) tied a season-high with three blocks against Howard and finished with eight kills.

Melvina Brown (NSU) finished with 28 digs, one kill and four service aces against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.

Tamia Dockery (HOW) led the match with 38 assists in a three-set win over Coppin State.

Maria Yvette Garcia (FAMU) posted a team-high 20 kills in a 3-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman.

Dominique Ingram (SSU) recorded 13 kills and five blocks against North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central.

Angel Jamerson (CSU) tallied a season-high 20 assists, with a pair of blocks, against Howard.

Micah Leavell (HAM) posted 11 kills, four digs, two service aces, one total block and one assist against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Brianna Lilly (HAM) recorded 30 assists, three digs and one service ace in a three-set win over Delaware State.

Jasmine Lindor (NCAT) totaled eight blocks, including two solo, six kills, one service ace and one dig in wins against Savannah State and South Carolina State.

Morgan Marlbrough (HOW) averaged 4.16 digs per set in wins over Morgan State and Coppin State.

Liz Martino (NCAT) recorded 10 assists per set in wins over Savannah State and South Carolina State.

Caitlynn Masoe (SSU) registered a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs against North Carolina A&T State.

Paige Phillips (NCCU) posted a match-high 38 assists in a four-set victory over South Carolina State.

Alyssa Pitt (NCAT) hit .500, with 11 kills, three service aces and one dig, in a win over South Carolina State.

Reeana Richardson (HAM) totaled 32 kills, 10 digs and two service aces against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Glorines Rosado (CSU) collected 14 digs, five assists and one service ace against Howard.

Bree Simmons (NCCU) tallied 4.00 digs per set against Gardner-Webb, South Carolina State and Savannah State.

Nia Singletary (NCCU) notched a career-high five blocks in a three-set win over Savannah State.

Alexis Washington (SSU) led the team with 16 digs against North Carolina Central.

Whitney White (NCCU) hit .400, with 11 kills, in a win over South Carolina State.
