SMYRNA, Del. – Florida A&M broke a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with its fifth straight Women’s Cross Country championship on Saturday morning at the Delaware State University Outreach and Research Center.
Florida A&M scored 53 points to win its ninth overall MEAC title and a MEAC-record fifthh in a row. The Lady Rattlers averaged a time of 18:52.52 on the 5K course and had all four runners finish inside the top 15.
“Last year we won our fourth in a row and set a FAMU record,” Lady Rattlers head coach Darlene Moore said. “In order to keep the kids from being complacent, we set the goal to go out there and set a MEAC record.”
Florida A&M’s Judith Kibii was named Outstanding Performer, and became the second Lady Rattler in school history to win the cross country championship after finishing first with a time of 18:02.60.
Coach Moore, of Florida A&M, was named Outstanding coach for the women for the fifth straight year.
Second-place honors went to Maryland Eastern Shore with 60 total points. Hampton (93), Bethune-Cookman (105) and Norfolk State (115) completed the top-five team finishes.
