WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard maintained its perfect record in conference play and limited the Norfolk State volleyball team to just one more kill than it had errors in a 3-0 victory over the Spartans on Friday night at Burr Gymnasium.
Despite having just five fewer errors, the Bison still hit .237 compared to a .011 clip for NSU. Howard ran its overall record to 20-5 and its MEAC record to 9-0 after a 25-21, 25-13 and 25-20 sweep over Norfolk State.
The Spartans fell to 6-17 overall and 4-5 in the league. NSU suffered the setback despite having four fewer service errors, exactly the same amount of digs as Howard (40) and a 7-6 edge in blocks.
Howard's Khaila Donaldson, the league's leading hitter, tallied 14 kills with seven digs. The Bison finished with 38 kills compared to 21 for the Spartans.

DURHAM, N.C. – Junior setter Paige Phillips posted a double-double and orchestrated a hot-hitting Lady Eagles attack as the North Carolina Central University volleyball team coasted to a straight-set Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory over South Carolina State University on Friday night in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU (4-13 Overall, 3-3 MEAC) leveled its league ledger with the 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 triumph. The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (0-23, 0-8) remained winless after dropping its second match to the Lady Eagles on the season.
Senior Kelsey Murphy sophomore Whitney White both blasted a dozen kills with hitting percentages over .300. White added five blocks (three solo, two assists) and two aces to her 12 kills for a match-high 18 kills.
Phillips completed her fourth double-double of the year with 35 assists and 10 digs.
South Carolina State’s Marcella Chestnut led all players with 13 kills and 13 digs.
Sophomore Brianna Dafney also reached double-digit kills with 11 spikes; junior Ashante Finnie logged eight kills and five blocks; and freshman setter Fabiola Plaza handed out 26 assists.
North Carolina A&T State 3, Savannah State 1
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior setter Alee Quint recorded her first double-double at Savannah State University as the Lady Tigers volleyball team (1-24, 1-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25) to North Carolina A&T State University (8-11, 5-1 MEAC) Friday night in Moore Gymnasium.
The Pueblo, Colo., native led the team with 22 assists and recorded 10 digs, a service ace and connected on her only attack, while graduate student Justice Dilworth led the team with 13 kills with a .276 hitting percentage and two service aces and five digs.
Senior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 21 digs, while senior setter Caitlynn Masoe added 17 assists, six kills, eight digs, three blocks and two service aces and freshman middle blocker Dominique Ingram added nine kills and three blocks.
The Aggies were led by Samara Brown with 20 kills and added 17 digs for a double-double, Kayla Finnerty with 20 assists and Keniah Rivera with 19 digs.
Delaware State 3, Coppin State 1
BALTIMORE, Md. --- Sabina Szmajduch had 19 kills and 11 digs, while NaKia Jones tallied 12 kills to lead Delaware State to a 3-1 victory over Coppin State in a MEAC match.
The scores were 25-22, 25-21, 16-25 and 25-21.
The Hornets won for the first time this season and avenged a home loss to the Eagles on Oct. 7.
Szmajduch, who sat out the first Coppin State match this season due to injury, notched season highs in kills and digs in the tonight’s rematch. She posted a .318 hitting percentage in the contest (44 attempts).
The 12 kills by Jones marked a career-high. She had just two errors on 23 attacks for a .435 hitting percentage in the match.
DSU setter Gabriella Enriquez had a career-best 36 assists, while Aaliyah McBean led all players with 17 digs and tied for match-high honors with three service aces.
Maryland Eastern Shore 3, Morgan State 0
BALTIMORE, Md. — Maryland Eastern Shore fermented their hold of second place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division with a sweep of the Morgan State Bears (27-25, 25-10, 25-13) Friday night in Baltimore. The Hawks improved to 14-12 (7-2 MEAC) while the Bears fell to 5-19 (5-4 MEAC).
Sophomore Rachel Kayongo led the attack with a match high 14 kills against just three errors for a kill percentage of 39 percent. Fellow sophomore Koya Sowells supplied 11 digs, also a match high, and freshman Ivana Blazevic assisted on 29 of the Hawks’ 34 kills. Junior Kirstin Fink delivered a pair of block assists, helping out on half of the team’s blocks.
Morgan State had an uncharacteristic rough night, earning more errors than kills. The Bears received eight kills from Keana Browne and 10 digs each from Natashia Barker and Jasmin Hubbard.
