SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior middle blocker Gabrielle Nathaniel led Savannah State University volleyball team (1-21, 1-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) with seven kills as the Lady Tigers fell to Bethune-Cookman University (6-18, 4-2 MEAC) 3-0 (16-25, 15-25, 14-25) Friday night in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
The Ontario, Canada also added five digs, while junior setter Alee Quint led the team with 13 assists and senior setter Caitlynn Masoe led the team with nine digs and added five kills, and five digs.
Graduate student Justice Dilworth added five kills, three service aces and eight digs, while senior libero Alexis Washington added seven digs.
The Wildcats were led by Alana Handy with 14 kills and with 15 digs for a double-double, and Phalen Clark with 39 assists.

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University seniors Kelsey Murphy and Casey Curran both ripped season-high kill totals and Murphy moved into first place as NCCU’s NCAA Division I career kills leader during Friday’s five-set showdown against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division rival North Carolina A&T State University inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Murphy and Curran both had double-doubles in their big outings. Murphy totaled 15 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Curran blasted a team-high 18 kills and made 12 digs. Junior setter Paige Phillips tallied her own double-double with 41 assist and 14 digs.
Murphy entered Friday’s match tied for the DI era record (since 2007) in career kills at 831 with Belinda Behncke-Biney. Murphy’s season-high 15 kills puts her in first place at 846 with six regular season matches left to her final season. NCCU’s all-time career kills leader is Shari Matthews (1447 in two seasons that overlapped the Lady Eagles DII era from 2006-2007).
Curran’s 18 kills are career-high in a maroon and gray uniform.
The Aggies were led by a pair of 6-foot-1 junior outside hitters in Samara Brown and Alyssa Pitt, who both registered double-doubles. Pitt notched a match-high 19 kills and made 13 digs while Brown hammered down 15 kills and made a match-high 22 digs.
Howard 3, Maryland Eastern Shore 1
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — In the most intense battle of the season so far—one that had a good chance of determining first place out of the MEAC North—the Hawks came up just short of dethroning the front running Bison. Howard won the match in four sets over Maryland Eastern Shore (19-25, 25-23, 13-25, 22-25) in spite of an energetic crowd Friday evening at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
Despite the defeat, three Hawks turned in double-double efforts. Sophomore Rachel Kayongo led The Shore with 11 kills and supplied 10 digs, and classmate Zuzana Ondruskova totaled 10 kills with 10 digs. Freshman Ivana Blazevic led her team in assists with 33 and digs with 15, while also delivering a match high three aces.
Senior Mere Serea returned from an injury with a fine performance of five kills and a .312 hitting percentage to go along with a solo block and a block assist. Sophomore Lucia Babic put forth eight kills and 13 digs.
Howard’s Khalia Donaldson led the match with 24 kills, while Tamia Dockery tallied 53 assists and Katherine Broussard secured 19 digs.
