SSU Releases 2016-17 Men?s Basketball Schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The 2016-17 schedule for the Savannah State University men's basketball team features 29 regular season games including 11 home contests.

Of the 29 teams on the schedule, 10 advanced to postseason play last season. Eleven teams on the schedule won at least 19 games a year ago.

The schedule features squads from 13 different conferences.

SSU begins the season by hosting a pair of exhibition games. The Tigers play LaGrange College on November 3 and cross-town foe Armstrong State University on Nov. 7.

Savannah State opens the regular season with road games at Iowa State University (Nov. 11) and University of Iowa (Nov. 13) before playing Middle Georgia State University (Nov. 17) in the home opener. SSU will then travel to the University of Memphis (Nov. 19) and close out the month with a home game against Fort Valley State University (Nov. 21).

The Tigers will travel to Destin, Fla. to participate in the Emerald Coast Classic. SSU will play St. Francis College Brooklyn (Nov. 25) in the opening round and the winner of Grambling State University and Texas Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 26) in the second round.

SSU will only have one home game during the month of December. The Tigers will host regional rival Georgia Southern University on Dec. 1 before hitting the road to play at the University of Oregon (Dec. 3), Oregon State University (Dec. 11), the College of William and Mary (Dec. 19) and East Tennessee State University (Dec. 29).

The MEAC portion of the schedule begins on Jan. 4 when SSU hosts Bethune-Cookman University. Road games at Norfolk State University (Jan. 7) and Hampton University (Jan. 9) follow before a home tilt with Florida A&M University (Jan. 14).

SSU travels to South Carolina State University (Jan. 16) before hosting Morgan State University (Jan. 21) and Delaware State University (Jan. 23).

Road contests at Howard University (Jan. 28) and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 30) close out January while February opens with home games with Hampton (Feb. 4) and Norfolk State (Feb. 6).

The Tigers travel to Morgan State (Feb. 18) and play Coppin State University (Feb. 20) at home before a two-game road swing at North Carolina A&T State University (Feb. 25) and North Carolina Central University (Feb. 27).

SSU closes out the regular season at home against South Carolina State University on March 2.

Horace Broadnax is entering his 12th season as head coach of the Tigers. SSU finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 16-16 record and earned a postseason invitation to play in the Collegeinsider.com Tournament.
