WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard volleyball team took down Bethune-Cookman, 3-1, on Friday night in Burr Gym in the 2015 MEAC Championship rematch. 
The Bison had three players finish with double digits in kills, led by senior Katherine Broussard with 16. Junior Khaila Donaldson tallied her eighth double-double of the season (15 kills, 16 digs), while senior Whitney Fields posted 10 kills. 
Sophomore Tamia Dockery had a career-high 51 assists and senior Morgan Marlbrough finished the night with a match-high 19 digs. 

 

 

Maryland Eastern Shore 3, Delaware State 0
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Sophomore Rachel Kayongo and freshman Ivana Blazevic led the charge as the Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team defeated their Route 13 rival Delaware State in straight sets (25-8, 28-26, 25-14). The Hawks won their fifth straight to improve to 12-10 (5-1 MEAC) while Delaware State falls to 0-20 (0-6 MEAC).
Kayongo finished with a match high 16 kills against just four errors for a success rate of over 37 percent while adding seven digs. Blazevic registered her third double-double of the season with 32 assists and 11 digs, both team highs. The freshman also supplied four aces in the victory.
Other top performers included eight digs each from sophomores Zuzana Ondruskova and Koya Sowells, and a match high four block assists from junior Kirstin Fink.
Delaware State received eight kills from Sabina Szmajduch and a match high 13 digs from Aaliyah McBean.

 

 

Norfolk State 3, Hampton 2
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team took on cross-water rival Norfolk State University on Friday night and dropped a five-set thriller 25-19, 25-27, 20-25, 27-25, 12-15 at Holland Hall.
Freshman Micah Leavell joined a select group by smashing a season-high 30 kills to become just the fourth player in the last six years to smash 30 or more kills in a match.   She had an attack percentage of .490 with five errors in 51 attempts and added six digs on the night.  Her 30 kills are the 14th most in a match in NCAA Division I this season. The 30 kills are the most by a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference player this year topping the 25 of teammate Reeana Richardson against Loyola (Md.) on September 16.
Joining Leavell in the multi-kills department was Richardson with 22 kills, and also six digs.  Brianna Lilly had a career-high 55 assists and seven digs to go with four kills, while Summer Humes matched her career-high with 14 digs.

 

 

Morgan State 3, Coppin State 0
BALTIMORE, Md. - Natashia Barker tallied a match-high 17 kills and added 12 digs to lead Morgan State to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) sweep of crosstown rival Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division contest on Friday night at Hill Field House.
 With the win, Morgan State (4-16, 4-2 MEAC) closed out the first half of the conference slate on a two-match winning streak, while remaining in third-place in the league standings. The Lady Bears also improved to 60-10 all-time against Coppin State. It was the first sweep in the series, since Coppin State swept the Lady Bears on Sept. 23, 2012 at Hill Field House.
 Barker, who notched her first double-double of the season, also recorded a match-high .452 hitting percentage with just three errors on 31 attempts. Haley McClure fell shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 digs and nine kills, while Keana Browne also added nine kills. Jasmine Hubbard tied a season-best with 19 digs and Roi Wallace totaled a match-high 39 assists.
