PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – After a successful and historic fall slate, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men’s Golf team released their 2016 spring schedule, the announcement came today. The squad will compete in the Sunshine State on four separate occasions, including the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Minority Championships.
On Feb. 29-March 1, UMES opens the season with a new challenge at the Legacy Intercollegiate in Longwood, Fla. The squad will compete in this event for the first time in the program’s D-1 history.
On March 3-4, the Hawks will take part in the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational, hosted by Bethune-Cookman. UMES looks to improve on their 11th place finish from a year ago.
For the sixth consecutive season, UMES heads to Tallahassee, Fla. to play in the Florida A&M (FAMU) Rattler Invitational (April 2-3).
Next, the Hawks compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), held in Savannah, Ga. (April 21-23). With a victory, UMES will compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament. The club finished sixth overall a year ago.
On May 6-8, the team will conclude its season in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at the PGA Minority Championships. Last season, Norman Blanco, Demarkis Cooper, Timothy Mitchell, and Bryce Young posted new personal bests while setting a new team record in a three-round (54-hole) event.
Justin Diggs, Christian Owens and Blair Waters round out the squad for the spring.
