Late rally lifts Mercer by Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FAMU Women’s Basketball team held a 10-point lead headed into the final quarter, but fell victim to a furious rally by visiting Mercer University, which escaped with a 54-50 non-conference win at The Al Lawson Center Monday night.

Florida A&M (7-8) had won three straight games coming into the night’s showdown, and despite an off shooting night from the floor, used a 13-0 surge in the final 5:17 of the third period, erasing a 35-31 Mercer lead, to grab a 45-35 edge headed into the final frame.

Kenya Dixon led FAMU with 16 points, followed by Olivia Antilla with 13 points, while Mercer was paced by Kahlia Lawrence with 22 points Keke Calloway with 11 points.

FAMU returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play for good now, heading to Virginia for a two-game weekend set Saturday at Norfolk State, and next Monday against defending regular season champion Hampton.
