SSU Softball Releases 2016 Schedule

 

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team begins the 2016 schedule hosting the first Lady Tiger Classic with four teams from Feb. 12-14 with 11 games at the Lady Tiger Softball Field. 

The Lady Tigers season starts on Feb. 12 with Jacksonville State at 1 p.m. and continues with Drexel at 7 p.m., followed by two games on Feb. 13 with Western Carolina at 9 a.m. and College of Charleston at noon.  SSU finishes the tournament with College of Charleston on Feb. 14 at 4 p.m.

The Lady Tigers travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for the first road trip of the season for the USC Upstate Tournament from Feb. 19-20. SSU faces Akron on Feb. 19 at noon and at Furman at 4 p.m. and then finishes the tournament on Feb. 20 with Akron at 11 a.m. and at USC Upstate at 3 p.m.

SSU hosts its first doubleheader of the season against Mercer on Feb. 24 starting at 3 p.m. and then returns on the road traveling to Charleston, S.C., for the Charleston Southern Tournament from Feb. 26-28. 

During the tournament, the Lady Tigers start with Mid-Eastern Athletic opponent on Feb. 26 with Delaware State at 9 a.m. and UT Arlington at 11 a.m., followed by UT Arlington at 9 a.m. and at Charleston Southern at 1 p.m. on Feb. 27 and finishes the tournament with host Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28

Presbyterian College travels to Savannah for a doubleheader on March 2 starting at 1 p.m. and travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the final tournament from March 4-6.  The Lady Tigers start with Grambling State on March 4 at 5 p.m., followed by Alabama State on March 5 at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. and finishes the tournament with two games on March 6 against Grambling State at 11 a.m. and Mississippi Valley State at 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers host the next three doubleheaders starting with MEAC opponent Maryland Eastern Shore on March 13 starting at 1 p.m., Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Syracuse on March 15 starting at 2 p.m. and Buffalo on March 18 starting at noon.

MEAC conference plays starts for the Lady Tigers on the road against Bethune-Cookman with a doubleheader on March 25 starting at 1 p.m. and finishes with a single game on March 26 at noon and continues with North Carolina Central with a doubleheader on April 2 starting at 1 p.m. and finishes with a single game on April 3 at noon.

The Lady Tigers finishes their home slate with 10 games starting with Florida A&M with a doubleheader on April 16 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on April 17 at noon.  SSU plays a non-conference doubleheader against Jacksonville on April 19 starting at 3 p.m. before returning for the final home conference weekend against North Carolina A&T State. 

The Lady Tigers play against the Lady Aggies with a doubleheader on April 23 starting at 1 p.m. and finishes with a single game on April 24 at noon for senior day.  SSU plays its final home doubleheader of the season against in-state rival Georgia Southern on April 27 starting at 3 p.m.

SSU finishes the regular season in Orangeburg, S.C., and plays a doubleheader against South Carolina State at 1 p.m. on April 30 and a single game on May 1 at noon.

The postseason for the Lady Tigers start in the MEAC Championship from May 10-14 in Ormond Beach, Fla.  SSU was picked to finish second two weeks ago in the southern division and won the southern division a year ago, but went 2-2 in the tournament.
