NCCU Cooled By Late Rally from Delaware State

DOVER, Del.—A late rally from Delaware State University proved to be the difference as North Carolina Central University fell 71-60 in their snow-postponed game at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Rashaun Madison caught fire first as he poured in 12 points over the first half, and Dante Holmes chipped in six points and six rebounds.

NCCU (7-14, 2-5 MEAC) and DSU (3-17, 2-4 MEAC) traded buckets in the first half, and after the Eagles led by as many as 11 at 28-17 with 4:36 to play in the first 20 minutes.

The Hornets came storming back heading to the break with help from Kavon Waller and DeAndre Haywood. Waller made two-of-three treys in the half, and Haywood added 13 points while shooting 4-of-5 from the floor.

The game remained tight in the second half until DSU rattled off a 13-3 run over four minutes with 6:39 to play to pull in front 70-60, and that would seal the game.

Madison led four NCCU players in double figures with 18 points, highlighted by four three-point field goals. Holmes finished the game with a solid 14 points and six rebounds for NCCU, and Patrick Cole came close to a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Haywood led three Delaware State players in double figures with 20 points. Waller came off the bench to have his best performance as a Hornet. He scored a career-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Waller also pulled down a season-high seven rebounds.

Dana Raysor contributed 15 points and six rebounds to the win. Devin Morgan scored eight points, but led all players with his collegiate-high of 11 rebounds.

The Eagles will next head south to visit Florida A&M on Monday, Feb. 1.

Eagles Hold Off Aggies

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Coppin State men's basketball team won its third consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game with a 73-68 victory over the North Carolina A&T State Wednesday night January 27 in the Physical Education Complex.
 
Coppin State (5-14, 3-3) captured its first MEAC home win of the 2015-16 season.
 
Overall, four Eagles scored in double figures led by 22 points and seven rebounds by Terry Harris Jr.
  
Keith Shivers tallied 16 points and three rebounds, while Christian Kessee added 15 points, a season high eight rebounds and dished out three assists for the Eagles. James Sylvester chipped in 10 points and six rebounds with three assists.
 
The North Carolina A&T State Aggies (5-17, 2-6) have now dropped two consecutive MEAC road games.  Sam Hunt led the Aggies with 16 points. Ahmad Abdullah chipped in 15 points, five rebounds and three assists for North Carolina A&T State.
