Late rally lifts Howard past Bethune-Cookman

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Damon Collins lay-up with 43 seconds left and a Tyler Stone free throw 20 seconds later as homestanding Howard University scored the final 12 points of the game to defeat Bethune-Cookman University 70-68 Tuesday night.

Diamante Lewis scored 23 points and Jordan Potts 20 for Bethune-Cookman. 

Howard erased an 18-point lead and took a 55-54 lead with nine minutes to play, but Potts scored 12 of the Wildcats’ final 14 points as they went ahead 68-58 with 4:18 to play.

Howard’s James Daniel III, the nation’s leading scorer, led his team with 24 – four under his average. Collins and Stone added 14 and 13, respectively.

The makeup game between Florida A&M and Howard that was scheduled for Jan. 27 will now be played on Feb. 24 at Howard.
