Lady Pirates Remain In First With Win Over SCSU
HAMPTON, Va. – Another monster game from Malia Tate-DeFreitas was in store on Monday evening at the HU Convocation Center, and it helped the Hampton University women’s basketball team upend South Carolina State 63-50.
The Lady Pirates (8-12, 6-1 MEAC) have won four straight games.
Tate-DeFreitas notched her second straight double-double – and her fourth of the season – with 30 points and 11 rebounds. On top of recording her fifth career 30-point game, going 10-for-18 from the floor and hitting four 3-pointers, she had a team-high four steals.
Kaylah Lupoe and Kristine Rose each had nine points, while Lupoe added eight rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the floor, hitting five of their 17 3-pointers (29.4 percent). Hampton struggled from the free throw line (10-for-23, 43.5 percent), but turned 19 S.C. State turnovers into 19 points.
S.C. State (8-10, 4-4 MEAC) shot 30.8 percent (20-for-65) from the floor and hit four of 13 3-pointers (30.8 percent). The Bulldogs held a 42-41 edge on the glass. Jasmine Coleman and Amber Howard each had 11 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Aggies Score Road Win Over Delaware State
DOVER, Del. – Monday evening, the Delaware State women’s basketball team (5-13, 2-3 MEAC) suffered an 84-64 loss at home to the North Carolina A&T Aggies (9-9, 5-2 MEAC), headlined by the Lady Hornets being outscored 30-21 in the third quarter.
With this defeat, DSU failed to register back-to-back wins for the first time this season, in addition to dropping its fifth consecutive contest to the Aggies. NCAT, meanwhile, has now won five out of its last six games to move to .500 on the season.
For the Aggies, three players scored in double figures at game’s end, led by veteran center April McCrae’s 16 points (6-of-9), who also pulled down a team-high seven boards. Brown chipped in with 14 points (5-of-11), whereas guard Whitney Martin scored 11 points (4-of-9) and dished out a game-high seven assists.
DSU, on the other hand, saw its leading scorer Amber Bogard (12.5 ppg) foul out by the time the final buzzer sounded, in addition to scoring just six points (2-of-5) to see her streak of tallying double figures come to a screeching halt at 10 games. Guard Mikah Aldridge, meanwhile, totaled a team-high 16 points (6-of-15), but was 0-for-6 from 3-point range. Forward NaJai Pollard also scored in double figures (10), yet committed a team-high five turnovers.
Coming up, the Lady Hornets will continue their season-long three-game home stretch this Wednesday evening (5 p.m.) against North Carolina Central. Last season, DSU suffered a 66-59 road loss to the Eagles.

Savannah State Puts Away Norfolk State With Blistering Second Half
NORFOLK, Va. - Kenyata Hendrix scored a career-high 28 points to lead visiting Savannah State to a 68-53 win over Norfolk State on Monday night at Echols Hall.
Hendrix hit 11-of-20 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Center Tiyonda Davis added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for SSU (6-12, 3-4 MEAC).
Kayla Roberts scored 12 points and Siobhan Beslow recorded her MEAC-leading ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to pace NSU (0-18, 0-8 MEAC).
The Lady Tigers shot a sizzling 70.6 percent (12-of-17) in the second half to pull away from the Spartans. SSU missed its first field goal attempt of the third quarter, then hit its next nine attempts from the floor.
SSU hit 25-of-48 from the floor for the game and outrebounded the Spartans, 35-26.
