MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Malia Tate-DeFreitas of Hampton was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Angel Golden, of Bethune-Cookman, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate Kailyn Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Jr., Harrisburg, Pa.) averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 3.0 steals against North Carolina Central and Savannah State. She earned her third double-double of the season, with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, in a 65-53 win over Savannah State.

Golden (G, 5-8, Fr., Tampa, Fla.) totaled 26 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal against Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore. She scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, two boards and one assist, in 31 minutes of play against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Williams (C, 6-4, Jr., New Orleans, La.) finished with 18 rebounds, nine blocks and four steals, against Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore. Offensively, she scored a career-high 22 points, including seven rebounds, three assists, five blocks and one steal in a 63-48 win over Morgan State.

 

Other Top Performers

Mikah Aldridge (DSU) matched a career-high 25 points, with three assists and four steals, in a 67-59 win over Savannah State.

Ciani Byrom (UMES) shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe for 14 points in a double-overtime win against Bethune-Cookman.

Tiyonda Davis (SSU) averaged 8.5 points and 9.0 rebounds against Delaware State and Hampton.

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) notched a career-high 27 points, on 9-of-16 shooting, against Delaware State.

Taylor Houston (BCU) shot 50-percent from the field (7-of-14) for 23 points against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Taryana Kelly (UMES) registered her fourth career double-double, with a career-high 18 points and 14 boards, against Bethune-Cookman.

N’kayah Kersey (DSU) tallied a career- and team-high six steals, with nine points, four rebounds and three assists, against Savannah State.

Kaylah Lupoe (HAM) finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals, against North Carolina Central and Savannah State.

Moengaroa Subritzky (UMES) posted a career-high 26 points in a 63-56 win over South Carolina State.

K’lynn Willis (HAM) tallied 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, in a 76-42 win over North Carolina Central.
