MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Quinton Chievous of Hampton was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player and Defensive of the Week, the conference announced today. Alex Long, of Norfolk State, earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Chievous (G, 6-6, 215, Gr., Chicago, Ill.) averaged a double-double of 22.5 points and 12.0 rebounds against North Carolina Central and Savannah State. He scored 26 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, with 16 rebounds, five assists and one block, in a 75-52 win over Savannah State. Defensively, he finished the week with 24 rebounds and one block.

Long (F, 6-8, 220, Fr., Clinton, Md.) totaled 17 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks, against North Carolina A&T State and South Carolina State. He shot 83-percent (5-of-6) from the floor for 10 points in 24 minutes of play against South Carolina State.

 

Other Top Performers

Patrick Cole (NCCU) scored a game-high 28 points, with six rebounds and four assists, against Hampton.

Ricky Johnson (BCU) scored his 1,000 career point, on a four-point play, in the 62-50 win over Morgan State.

Charles Oliver (NSU) averaged 19.5 points, including 4.5 3-pointers, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists, against North Carolina A&T State and South Carolina State.
