DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman opened its 2016 men’s tennis spring schedule with a 7-0 loss to Florida Atlantic at City Island Courts.
Walid Gtari dropped his No. 2 singles match in a tiebreaker, and the No.2 doubles team of Greg Almeida and newcomer Jose Plazas was leading 5-4 when that match was called due to Florida Atlantic clinching the doubles point. Alexander Chepik, Pablo Lopez and Alvaro Barrera lost their respective first sets.
“The 0-7 overall team score doesn’t give us must justice to the effort we gave on the court,” said B-CU Head Coach Tim Pleasant, whose team went 15-12 and advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship for the first time in program history last year. We were in every match and had winning points left on the court. As long as we look at this as an opportunity to get better, then we will be fine."
B-CU returns to action January 28 at home against Campbell.
