Delaware State-Howard Contest Suspended Due to Clock Malfunction
Dover, Del.—This evening's Delaware State vs. Howard Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball contest was suspended with 15:41 left in the second half due to clock/scoreboard malfunctions at DSU's Memorial Hall. Officials from the two schools and MEAC will meet to determine when the game will be completed.
Howard was ahead 41-38 when game officials stopped the contest when the gymnasium's four clocks were out of sync.
The game was delayed for more than a half hour when the officials ruled to halt the contest.
Delaware State is scheduled to begin a two-game road swing at South Carolina State on Saturday (Jan. 16). The trip concludes with a visit to Savannah State on Monday (Jan. 18).
Howard is scheduled to return to action on Saturday at Harvard.

Pirates Defeat Rattlers in Overtime
HAMPTON, Va.—Of the four conference games the Pirates have played so far this season, three of them have gone to overtime. Following Monday night’s 71-65 overtime win over Florida A&M at the Convocation Center, the result has yet to change.
With the win, the Pirates improved to 8-7 overall and 4-0 in MEAC play.
Reginald Johnson, Jr. led four Pirates in double figures with 21 points on 7-for-19 shooting, while also dishing out a team-high five assists and grabbing four steals. Dionte Adams and Quinton Chievous each had double-doubles; Adams scored a career-high 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Chievous had 12 points and 10 boards.
Brian Darden, despite a tough shooting night, added 11 points.
Johnson went to the line for two free throws with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, hitting one of them to tie the score at 62-62. After Jerran Foster missed a trey with 24 seconds left, Johnson tried to hit a floater with a second left.
Chievous scored the first four points of overtime, giving the Pirates a 66-62 lead with a layup at the 3:57 mark. FAMU cut the lead to 66-65 after a free throw from Malcolm Bernard, but an Adams jumper and another Darden trey put Hampton up 71-65 with 1:08 remaining.
FAMU had two looks from distance in the waning seconds, but both shots missed.
Bernard led the Rattlers with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

NCCU Ends Road Woes at Savannah State
SAVANNAH, Ga.—An early 15-0 run from North Carolina Central University and a career-high 30 points from Patrick Cole set the tone as the Eagles earned their first road win of the year at Savannah State with a 69-46 victory at Tiger Arena on Monday, Jan. 11.
Cole upped the ante for NCCU in the second half pouring in 20 points for a career-high 30 to help push the Eagles ahead while hitting 12 of a total 14 free throws over the course of the game. He went six-for-10 from the floor and made two of three triples along with an additional six made free throws out of eight attempts.
Lenjo Kilo had a big game for SSU as he ripped 15 boards along with 14 points for his double-double.
Dante Holmes finished his night with 13 points, and Madison reached 11 points with five boards. Kyle Benton led NCCU with rebounding as he earned eight boards in the paint.
NCCU next hosts Norfolk State at 4:00 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Bears Nipped at Maryland Eastern Shore
PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Devin Martin and Dominique Elliott sparked a 9-0 run to lead Maryland Eastern Shore's comeback in the final 7 minutes to beat Morgan State 69-65 on Monday at the Hytche Athletic Center.
Martin led the way by scoring 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, while Elliott finished with 14 points and six rebounds to lead UMES (4-14, 1-2 MEAC) to its first conference win of the season.
Morgan State (3-13, 1-2 MEAC) appeared headed for its first conference road win of the season and they absolutely set the pace in the first stanza.
The combination of Martin and Elliott took over in the second half and steadily helped trim the Bears lead.
Trailing the Bears 63-57 with 6:43 remaining, the Hawks got a layup from Derrico Peck that sparked a 9-0 run. A jumper by Elliott to give UMES a 68-63 edge with 3:11 left.
Down the stretch, Cedric Blossom hit a layup with 38 seconds to go to cut it to 68-65, but it was as close as the Bears would come tonight.
Blossom scored 17 points (8-of-11) and Phillip Carr added 16 (5-of-9) to lead Morgan State. The Bears also got a solid contribution from Rasean Simpson who chipped in 13 points with six rebounds and three assists.
The Bears will return to the road at Florida A&M on Saturday, Jan. 16, and at Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Jan. 18.
