NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton junior Malia Tate-DeFreitas was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Najai Pollard, of Delaware State, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Hampton’s Kaylah Lupoe was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Jr., Harrisburg, Pa.) recorded the Lady Pirates’ first triple-double since 2003 in a 60-45 win over Bethune-Cookman. She finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Also, she added two blocks and four steals in 38 minutes of play.
Pollard (F, 5-11, Fr., Richmond, Va.) averaged a double-double of 12.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, with 2.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 2.5 steals against Cornell and Morgan State. She recorded a career-high 16 points, on 8-of-11 shooting, with nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks against Morgan State. Also, she matched a career-high with 13 rebounds against Cornell.
Lupoe (F, 6-2, So., Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied 12 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in a 60-45 win over Bethune-Cookman. Offensively, she recorded 16 points, on 8-of-12 shooting, in 35 minutes of play.
Other Top Performers:
Amber Bogard (DSU) totaled 28 points, five rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals against Cornell and Morgan State.
Dana Brown (NCAT) registered 19 points, including four 3-pointers, with three boards and one steal in a 69-59 win over Savannah State.
Kenya Dixon (FAMU) tallied 22 points, including a season-high six 3-pointers, with seven rebounds and one assist, in an 83-67 win over Norfolk State.
Braennan Farrar (MSU) finished with 18 points and a career-high eight steals in a 56-49 win over Delaware State.
Victoria Gonzales (HOW) recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals against Coppin State.
Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) tallied 21 points, on 7-of-14 shooting, with five boards, one assist, one block and one steal, against North Carolina A&T State.
Morgan Jones (NCCU) averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals against Furman and South Carolina State.
Chelsea Mitchell (MSU) recorded 10 points, two rebounds, one block and four steals, in a 56-49 win over Delaware State.
Keena Samuels (CSU) finished with a career-high 23 points, including 12-of-16 from the free-throw line, in an 83-67 win over Howard.
Kailyn Williams (B-CU) posted 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals against Hampton.
