Hampton falls to Tennessee in straight sets
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Hampton University volleyball team fell to Tennessee in straight sets on Friday in the opener of the N.C. State Doubletree Cary Classic in Carmichael Gym, as Tennessee took the match 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-12).
The Lady Pirates fell to 0-11 on the season.
Reeana Richardson led the Lady Pirates with nine kills, five figs, and an ace – hitting a team-best .182. Asya Patterson added five kills and Summer Humes had 16 assists. Humes, Kyndall Nicholas, and Olivera Stojilovic each had an ace.
Patterson also had two blocks.
Bri Holmes led Tennessee with nine kills.
The Lady Pirates will take on N.C. State and Campbell on Saturday.

Hawks suffer first setback
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The first road test for the upstart Hawks squad proved challenging Friday night in Wilmington, North Carolina. A Stetson Hatter squad searching for its fourth win managed to stop UMES from claiming their 11th, as the Hatters claimed a 3-0 win at UNCW’s Hanover Hall.
For the Hawks, the defeat marks the end of their perfect run to begin the season, although they still set a school record for the best start in school history with ten straight wins.
Freshman Lucia Babic kept up her torrid pace with eight kills and a .412 kill percentage. Sophomore Alana Polk and junior Haley Robinson helped out on two blocks, and seniors Andjela Reljic and Petra Jerabkova tallied 11 digs each. Five different Hawks registered aces in the match.
The Hatters were led by Haley Tippett with 11 kills and Alexa Drost with 14 digs.
The Hawks will look to return to their winning ways with a doubleheader on Saturday, as they face a 12:30 p.m. match with the hosting Seahawks and a 5:00 p.m. bout with the Presbyterian Blue Hose.

NSU’s Offensive Output Not Enough in 3-2 Loss to NCCU
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Five players reached double digits in kills, but the Norfolk State volleyball team dropped a five-set contest against North Carolina Central on Friday afternoon by a 3-2 score at the JMU Invitational.
The matchup at James Madison’s Sinclair Gymnasium saw the Spartans hold the edge in most statistical categories. NSU finished with 17 more kills on the afternoon but dropped the third and fourth sets to fall into a hole.
The Spartans won the first set, 25-16, before the Eagles took the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-22. NSU stayed alive with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set before NCCU earned its first win of the year by taking the fifth set, 15-11.
Senior Angie Darcus had 16 kills and 12 digs for NSU (1-10), while senior Janay Frazier tallied 13 kills and tied her career high with 18 digs. The Spartans hit a season-high .216 for the match and outplayed the Eagles in kills (67-50) and digs (84-67). Both totals also marked season bests for the Spartans.
NCCU (1-14) finished with a .174 attack percentage.
Kelsey Murphy and Kelly Rossip each had 12 kills to lead the Eagles. Junior Alex Irizarry had a match-high 19 digs for the Spartans. Moore also added 50 assists, 10 digs and six kills.
NSU faces Georgetown on Saturday at noon and James Madison at 7 p.m. during the second day of the tournament.

Hoyas Hand North Carolina Central a 3-0 loss
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team had no answer for a hot-hitting Georgetown University attack in a 3-0 non-conference loss at the James Madison University Invitational Friday afternoon.
The Hoyas (5-6 Overall) hit .389 en route to the 25-22, 25-13, 25-7 triumph. The Lady Eagles (0-14) were held to a season-low 20 kills in the match while Georgetown’s team hitting percentage was the highest mark allowed by NCCU’s defense this season.
Senior Kelly Rossip tallied a team-high 8.5 points with five kills, three aces and one block assist.
Junior Kelsey Murphy led the Lady Eagles with six kills, marking the 12th time in 14 matches Murphy has paced NCCU in kills. Freshman Sydney Sumner chipped in four kills and a team-best seven digs. Junior Casey Curran supplied 16 assists.
Freshman Alyssa Sinnette totaled a match-high 15 kills as the Hoyas pounded down 45 kills in the three sets. Junior Ashlie Williams tallied seven kills, two solo blocks, four block assists and one ace for 12 points.
Freshman Paige McKnight orchestrated the sizzling Georgetown attack with 32 assists.

Savannah State drops pair in Arizona
TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior setter Caitlynn Masoe led the team with 10 kills, five in each match, in two matches of the Wildcat Classic on Friday as Savannah State University volleyball team fell to No. 2 Texas 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-9) and to New Mexico State 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-13) at the McKale Center.
Masoe added nine assists and five digs in two matches, while freshman setter Briana Littlejohn led the team with 12 assists in two matches, six in each match, and junior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 14 assists, including nine against Texas.
Junior middle blocker Gabrielle Nathaniel and freshman outside hitter Makayla Tam each added five kills in both matches, while Nathaniel added 10 digs, five in each match.
Against No. 2 Texas, Masoe led the team with five kills and a .286 hitting percentage and added four assists and two digs, while Tam added four kills and a service ace and Nathaniel added three kills and had a .231 hitting percentage with five digs. Littlejohn led the team with six assists and Washington led the team with nine digs.
The Longhorns were led by Amy Neal with nine kills, Chloe Collins with 20 assists and Cat McCoy with 16 digs.
Against New Mexico State, Masoe led the team with five kills and added five assists, one service ace, three digs and a block, while Littlejohn led the team with six assists and Washington and Nathaniel led the team with five digs each. Nathaniel added two kills, a service ace and two block assists.
New Mexico State was led by Jordan Abalos and Gwen Murphy with eight kills each, Taylor Livoti with 14 assists and Tatyana Battle with 12 digs.
