NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship April 21-23 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
“I would like to thank Old Dominion University Director of Athletics Dr. Camden Wood Selig and his leadership team for providing the MEAC access to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, one of the best in the country,” MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas said. “We are looking forward to hosting our tennis championship at this wonderful venue.”
The tournament will feature the top four teams from the northern and southern divisions for the three-day tournament.
The Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center opened in 2007 and is among one of the finest tennis facilities in the nation. It has eight climate controlled indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts. All courts are hard surface with classic US Open Blue and Green color patterns. In addition, the tennis center also features two elevated mezzanines for spectators, a pro shop, conference room, locker rooms and private lounge areas.
In 2015, the Bethune-Cookman women’s team captured its fourth overall title and first since 2001 to earn the title. On the men’s side, inclement weather played a factor as the conference did not award a tournament champion. South Carolina State’s men’s team was awarded the automatic qualifier after its 5-0 divisional record and 15-4 overall mark.
