DURHAM, N.C. – After beginning his stint at North Carolina Central University as a sideline reporter for football, Jonathan Duren has been named as an Assistant Sports Information Director as well as Broadcast Media Coordinator beginning with the 2015-16 academic year.

Starting in August 2013, Duren volunteered as a member of the NCCU Sports Network where he was a sideline reporter for football and a play-by-play commentator for women’s basketball.  He began men’s basketball play-by-play duties on Dec. 15, 2014 and continued into baseball season.

Duren was born in Peoria, Illinois and attended Illinois Central College before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2010.  He then transferred to South Carolina State University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast communications in 2013.

While at South Carolina State, Duren broadcasted men’s and women’s basketball on WSSB-90.3 FM, and was a co-host on the SportsZone, a Thursday night talk show, as well as a Saturday morning sports talk show, The Dog Pound.

Before volunteering with the NCCU Sports Network, Duren was a part of Explorer Post 50, working to direct, produce and film Durham Bulls baseball games for live television.  He also worked as a camera operator with CanesVision at PNC Arena, working Carolina Hurricanes games as well as NC State basketball, and worked on ESPN3 productions with Go Pack at North Carolina State University and Blue Devil Network at Duke University.
