NEW YORK, N.Y. – Patricia L. Porter, Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), has been selected to receive the 2015 Cathy Slattery Award which identifies outstanding positive gridiron communication efforts on FCS gridirons.
"Porter's endeavors supported by a dynamic professional work ethic over the last decade, have elevated the regional and national awareness of the MEAC," stated Dennis Wilson, President & CEO of American Football Networks which is custodian of the Slattery Award.
A native of Atlanta (Ga.) and alumna of Johnson C. Smith University, Porter joined the MEAC as Director of Communications in November, 2006, after serving five years as Director of Communications for the National Basketball Association's Development League.
Cathy Slattery Phillips, a 1974 graduate of Syracuse University, became Dartmouth College's Assistant Sports Information Director in 1977 and was named SID in 1983. Slattery was the Dean of the Ivy League SIDs, covering 305 consecutive Big Green football games, the 10th longest streak in the nation before passing away November 21, 2007 after a brief illness.
Wagner College (N.Y.) Assistant Director of Media Relations John Beisser was honored as the 2014 recipient of the Slattery Award at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet held at Met-Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on February 26, 2015. Beisser penned a light-hearted story that garnered national media coverage from the Associated Press and USA Today about Wagner's schedule being changed so head coach Walt Hamline could give his daughter away in marriage.
