Williams Named Acting Head Coach for B-CU Volleyball

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Brittany Williams has been named the acting head coach for Bethune-Cookman Volleyball, announced Saturday morning by B-CU Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lynn W. Thompson. The announcement comes following the resignation of former head coach Isaac Raphael.

Now entering into her third year with the Bethune-Cookman volleyball program, Williams spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach under former head coach Raphael. While serving as an assistant, Williams assisted in the day-to-day duties of the program, as well as recruiting and coordinating travel.

“I’m thankful for Mr. Thompson, and the rest of the athletic administration for giving me this opportunity to continue building this great program,” said Williams.

A native of Sugarland, Texas, Williams was selected to attend the 2015 USOC Ethnic Minority Women in Coaching Leadership Conference to be held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“The appointment of Brittany Williams as acting head volleyball coach for the 2015 season gives us the continuity of leadership needed to support a talented returning team,” stated Thompson. “She has our confidence and support, and she has earned the opportunity to lead the program through the season.”

Prior to arriving at B-CU, Williams served as an assistant coach at South Carolina State, as well as Southwestern University. At Southwestern, she helped the team finish in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25 in 2006. She has also served as head coach at Westside High School in Houston from 2008-10.

“This season, we definitely are expecting great things, and I’m really excited for the direction that we are headed,” continued Williams. “We have a group of amazing young women on the team, both academically and athletically, who will definitely leave their legacy, not only here at Bethune-Cookman, but also in their respective careers.”

Williams’ duties as acting head coach are set to begin immediately. The Wildcats begin practices for the upcoming 2015 season next week inside Moore Gymnasium.
