Spartans Release 2015 Volleyball Schedule

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball program and interim head coach Brandon Duvall released the 2015 schedule today. NSU’s home lineup will consist of its regular six foes from the MEAC Northern Division.

The Spartans open the year with four straight tournaments on the road, including two in-state and two in North Carolina. Prior to the beginning of the regular season, though, the Spartans will suit up for the Green vs. Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at Joseph Echols Hall.

First up to start the 2015 season, NSU will not have to travel far to play in the Tribe Invitational on Aug. 28 and 29. The Spartans face LaSalle on the first day and Gardner-Webb and host William & Mary on day 2.

NSU takes on Sacramento State on Sept. 4 as well as UNC Wilmington and host Campbell on Sept. 5 as part of the Campbell Invitational. Then the following weekend on Sept. 11 and 12, the Spartans head to Greensboro, N.C., to take part in the Spartan-Aggie Invitational hosted by UNC Greensboro and North Carolina A&T. NSU plays UNCG on Friday night, followed by Alabama State and N.C. A&T on Saturday.

The final tournament of the regular season for NSU runs from Sept. 18-19 at the JMU Invitational. The Spartans play MEAC Southern Division opponent North Carolina Central on the first day and Georgetown and host James Madison on day 2.

NSU will have the opportunity to play at home to start conference play when Coppin State and Morgan State come to town the next weekend. The Spartans will host Coppin State on Sept. 25 followed by Morgan State two days later. All home matches on Fridays will now start at 6 p.m. this season, while Sunday contests will begin at their usual 3 p.m. time.

The next two weekends find NSU away from home, first with a trip to UMES on Oct. 2 and then a trek to Howard on Oct. 11. Hampton and Delaware State arrive at Joseph Echols Hall on Oct. 16 and 18, respectively, to mark the halfway point of conference play. Norfolk State will then make the Friday-Sunday hike to Coppin State and Morgan State on Oct. 23 and 25.

The Spartans will host Howard on Oct. 30 and then a week later UMES for the last home match of the season on Nov. 6. That Friday night contest against the Hawks, also set to be Senior Night, will be played in Gill Gymnasium due to that weekend’s Homecoming festivities inside Echols Hall.

NSU finishes out the regular season with a Sunday afternoon matchup at Hampton on Nov. 8 and a Wednesday evening contest at Delaware State on Nov. 11. This year’s MEAC tournament will take place from Nov. 20-22 at UMES. The top four teams from each division earn a berth into the tournament.

NSU will return 10 letterwinners from last year’s team.
