NSU's Moriarty Named to VaSID All-State Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State softball senior outfielder Alina Moriarty was voted to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State second team, the organization announced on Friday.

It marked the second time in her career the Chesapeake, Va., native was voted all-state following a second-team designation as a sophomore in 2013 at second base.

A second-team All-MEAC performer, Moriarty hit .341 on the year and led the team with 26 runs, 42 hits, eight doubles, three triples and 71 total bases. She also tallied five home runs and 23 RBI with 11 walks and two stolen bases. Moriarty finished as NSU’s all-time leader in hits (206), doubles (39) and at bats (601) while also ranking second in total bases (313), third in home runs (20), fourth in sacrifice flies (11) and fifth in RBI (121), games played (187) and starts (181).

NSU finished the year 13-5 in MEAC play and second in the Northern Division standings as well as 14-27 overall.

James Madison swept the major honors, with Megan Good taking home the pitcher and rookie of the year awards. Jailyn Ford was voted the player of the year, while JMU’s Mickey Dean earned the coach of the year award.

Voting was done by the state's sports information directors at all levels of play.
