DURHAM, N.C. – Senior catcher Emerie Germ and junior second baseman on the North Carolina Central University softball team has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District First Team for District 3 as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Germ, who was just named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Conference, a couple days ago continued to collect postseason recognition for her combined athletic and academic excellence. Germ lived up to her MEAC Preseason All-Conference attention by batting .343 with 47 hits, 26 RBI, 26 runs, five doubles, two triples and seven home runs.
The Canton, Georgia, product led the Lady Eagles with a 12-game hit streak and had a team-best 13 multiple hit games in her final campaign. Germ’s 14 extra-base hits translated into a .562 slugging percentage and she was strong behind the plate as NCCU’s primary catcher. Germ threw out a couple base runners attempting to steal and notched a pickoff on her way to sporting a .974 fielding percentage.
Academically, Germ entered her final semester with a 3.72 grade point average as a theatre major.
Tracy was having an excellent season on the diamond for the Lady Eagles before being sidelined for the final full month due to injury. The La Grande, Oregon, resident finished her season batting .291 in 26 starts. Tracy scored 16 runs, drove in nine more and tallied six extra-base hits including four doubles, one triple and one home run. She tallied a seven-game hit streak and had a .956 fielding percentage as a busy middle infielder.
In the classroom, Tracy has a perfect 4.0 GPA studying in business administration. Tracy was only one of two NCAA Division I District 3 honors to boast 4.0 GPA out of the award winners as a Thurgood Marshall Leadership Institute Scholar. She is the President of NCCU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Co-President of the Entrepreneurship Club at NCCU and a member of both NCCU’s Honors Program and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society as NCCU’s Chapter Vice President.
