ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman rattled off eight hits and took advantage of two errors to blank Hampton, 8-0, in the opening round of the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championship at the Ormond Sports Complex.
The Lady Wildcats, the No. 2 seed from the south, advances in the winner’s bracket and will meet No. 1 seed from the north, Delaware State, at 7 p.m. Hampton falls to the elimination bracket and will face Howard at 4:30 p.m.
Sophia Ortega went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and drove in one as the Lady Wildcats (19-27) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and didn’t look back.
Sabrina Anguiano pitched five innings and scattered three hits to pick up the win.
Allyson Babinsack took the loss for the Lady Pirates by working 1.1 innings. She gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and fanned two. Jailynn Jackson and Jecoliah Pratt also saw action on the mound.
