MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State’s Torrian Wright was selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Delaware State’s Tara Tursellino earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while teammate Vanessa Washington earned Rookie of the Week.

Wright (1B, 5-6, Jr., McDonough, Ga.) registered a .750 batting average (6-for-8), including one home run and one double, with five runs scored and three RBI, in a series sweep of South Carolina State. Defensively, she recorded 33 put-outs and two assists.

Tursellino (P, 5-7, So., Moreno Valley, Calif.) earned two victories and one save against Maryland Eastern Shore. She allowed six hits and one earned run, with 12 strikeouts, in 14.2 innings pitched.

Washington (1B, 5-6, Fr., Elk Grove, Calif.) went 4-for-6 at the plate, including two doubles, with two RBI and three runs scored in a three-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore. She also recorded 15 putouts and one assist.

London Booker (NCCU) retired the first 13 batters in a 7-0 complete-game shutout win over North Carolina A&T State.

Ashley Eichenlaub (SSU) tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits and fanning three, in a 6-0 victory against South Carolina State.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) went 2-for-3 from the plate, including one double, in a 4-0 loss to Delaware State.

Brianna Harris (SSU) notched two hits, including one home run and one double, in a 5-4 win against South Carolina State.

Marissa Marrero (NSU) pitched 7.0 innings, scattering three hits and allowing one unearned run, in a 5-1 victory over Hampton.

Megan Przeslawski (NSU) allowed two hits and one run in a 2-1 win against Hampton.

Jordan Stamps (DSU) belted two home runs, with four RBI and scored twice, in a 9-1 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore. 

Whitney Williams (NSU) registered three hits, including one home run and one double, in a 5-1 victory over Hampton.

Dominique Wilson (NCCU) notched four hits, including three home runs, in a three-game series against North Carolina A&T State.
