INDIANAPOLIS – Jashell Mitchell, the Director of Football Operations at North Carolina Central University, has been selected to attend the 2015 NCAA/NACWAA Women’s Leadership Symposium (WLS) on May 20-22 in Baltimore at the Sheraton Inner Harbor.
The NCAA/NACWAA Women's Leadership Symposium is for women aspiring to or just beginning a career in intercollegiate athletics. The program aims to enrich participants’ skills, expand their professional network and promote the recruitment and retention of women working in intercollegiate athletics administration.
“We are excited about Ms. Mitchell having an opportunity to work with the best and brightest in her field,” NCCU head football coach Jerry Mack said. “She is invaluable to our program and is the consummate professional. Our NCCU family is proud of this honor and knows she will represent our entire athletics department well.”
Mitchell will also attend the NCAA’s 2015 Life Skills Symposium held June 26-28 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mitchell joined the NCCU football staff in January 2014. Prior to accepting the role as director of football operations at NCCU, she spent the previous three years at the University of Memphis, working two seasons (2010-11) as the executive assistant to the head football coach and the last year as administrative assistant to the deputy athletics director.
She successfully completed her master’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Memphis in August 2013.
From 2008-10, Mitchell served as academic coordinator for athletics and life skills director at her alma-mater Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. In that capacity, she served as the athletic academic advisor for men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball, as well as the advisor for the B-CU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
During her undergraduate career at Bethune-Cookman, Mitchell was a three-year letterwinner in women’s basketball and an administrative assistant for football (2003-04) and men’s basketball (2004-05). She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and recreation from Bethune-Cookman in 2005.
From 2006-08, Mitchell was the coordinator of women’s basketball operations at the University of Arizona.
Mitchell participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/Nike ‘So You Want to Be a Coach’ program at the 2006 Final Four in Boston, and also has served in administrative/operations roles for NBA and NFL sport camps in her hometown of Flint, Michigan.
