Marriott leads Jags in Day Two of NCAA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Jaguar men's golf team shaved six strokes from their overall score in round two of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with a 286 (-2) to sit in eighth place and 13 shots off the lead on the UNC Finley Golf Course.

The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championships and the Jaguars are five shots out of the fifth place after 36 holes on the par-72, 7,242-yard course.

No. 6 Stanford climbed six spots and overtook No. 50 Charlotte for the top spot at 11-under par. Charlotte is in second (-10), No. 1 Florida State is third (-6), and No. 37 Florida and No. 24 Kennesaw State are tied for fourth (-3).  Of the 13 teams in the field, eight are ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat. 

Sophomore Jake Marriott took the lead for the Jaguars with his round-two 70 (-2) to match the low round for GRU Augusta so far, after junior Maverick Antcliff carded the same score in round one. Marriott Carded five birdies and sits in a tie for 15th place.

Antcliff and junior Robin Petersson are sitting even in a tie for 23rd overall at even par. Antcliff posted one birdie in round two to score a 74 (+2) and Petersson improved by two shots with a 71 (-1).

Freshman Broc Everett also improved his score and dropped three strokes with a 73 (+1) and sophomore Viktor Edin had four birdies on the back nine and dropped 10 strokes with an even-par 72. Everett sits in a tie for 53rd and Edin in a tie for 71st overall.

Round three concludes the event tomorrow, Saturday May 16 with the final 18 holes. Live scoring continues on Golfstat.com
