DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Ekaterina Nekrasova on the North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District First Team for the District 3 at-large sports as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Nekrasova produced both on the court and in the classroom to earn her Academic All-District award. She posted a 16-8 singles record in her final season for the Lady Eagles before being named First Team All-MEAC for a second time in her career. The team captain also recorded a dozen doubles wins with classmate Rebecca Wood.
Nekrasova notched a winning singles record of 47-32 in 79 matches for her four years representing the Maroon and Gray.
Academically, Nekrasova kept a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) as a business administration and finance major. She received the NCCU School of Business Dean’s Award and Finance Award for having the highest cumulative GPA. The Severodvinsk, Russia, resident is part of the University’s Honors Program, Golden Key International Honor Society, NCCU School of Business Mentoring Program, Vice President for the business chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society and a SAAC representative.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
