DURHAM, N.C. – While North Carolina Central University student-athletes were on the road this season, they had more on their minds than just competition.
NCCU student-athletes were asked to gather unused toiletries that so often get discarded after an overnight hotel stay, so the items can be donated to individuals who do not take such things for granted.
The end result was more than 70 individually-packaged bags containing soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste and other personal hygiene products that were donated to the Durham Rescue Mission in an effort coordinated by the NCCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Friday’s special delivery was made by NCCU SAAC representatives Clevonne Davis (football), Tiphani Jackson (softball), Morgan Jones (women’s basketball), Carl Jones (football) and Jenny Tracy (softball), who serves as President of NCCU SAAC.
“This is something we are really proud to do as a committee, and we are glad to help out the community in any way we can,” Tracy said.
