NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS POSTS SECOND STRAIGHT 7-0 WIN

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University cruised to a 7-0 women’s tennis victory over fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Hampton University at the NCCU Tennis Courts on a warm Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles swept singles in straight sets to complete their second straight shutout. NCCU improved to 7-13 overall while the depleted Pirates, who only had four active players, slipped to 2-12.

NCCU notched the first team point with a pair of convincing wins in doubles. The junior duo of Aissa Muamba and Mia Ramic took the top flight 8-3 and the senior tandem of Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood registered an 8-2 conquest.

NCCU will conclude the regular season portion of its schedule with two matches over the weekend. The Lady Eagles first visit Elon University on Saturday at Noon before hosting University of Mount Olive during Sunday’s Senior Day festivities beginning at 3 p.m.

Lady Hawks Fly Over Terriers

QUEENS, N.Y. – After multiple heartbreakers this season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Tennis Team broke through as they snatched their first victory of the season, defeating the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 5-2. UMES also ended a 42-match losing streak, dating back to the 2012 season.

With the win, Maryland Eastern Shore improved to 1-11 overall while the Terriers dropped to 1-13 on the season.

Melequa King and Petra Jerabkova led the way for UMES. The duo picked up a point in doubles play, defeating St. Francis’ No. 1 team of Dragana Dzigurski and Jovanna Bojinovic.

Tomorrow (04/09), the Lady Hawks look to keep the momentum going as they will take on the Wagner Seahawks in Staten Island, N.Y. First-serve is set for 10 a.m.

UMES Tennis Tumbles in NonConference Action

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men’s Tennis Team traveled north to New York to face two opponents: St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner. UMES took on the Terriers in the early afternoon and lost, 5-0. The nightcap saw perfection as the Seahawks downed Maryland Eastern Shore, 7-0.

With both setbacks, the Hawks dropped to 0-8 on the season.

In the first match, St. Francis won both doubles matches, 8-0, respectively. In singles, Michael Cha (Seoul, Korea) scored a point before falling to the Terriers’ No. 1 Franscec Tern in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). The other Hawks also lost in consecutive sets (6-0, 6-0), respectively.

On April 12, the Hawks conclude its 2015 regular season against route 13 foe Salisbury. Match time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
