MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

Norfolk, Va., - Bethune-Cookman’s Calesha Shelley and Savannah State’s Torrian Wright was selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Co-Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Sabrina Anguiano of Bethune-Cookman earned Pitcher of the Week honors while teammate Mariah Davis earned Rookie of the Week.

Shelley (OF, 5-3, Sr., Suisun Sun, Calif.) registered a .833 batting average (10-for-12), including one double, with eight runs, seven stolen bases and three RBI against South Carolina State. Defensively, she recorded six putouts.

Wright (1B, 5-6, Jr., McDonough, Ga.) went 6-for-8 from the plate, including two home runs and one double, with nine RBI and four runs scored, in a three game sweep of North Carolina Central. Defensively, she registered 15 putouts and three assists without an error.

Anguiano (P, 5-7, So., Hacienda Heights, Calif.) tossed 15.0 scoreless innings, scattering 14 hits and striking out eight. She earned three victories in a series sweep over South Carolina State.

Davis (IF, Fr., Madera, Calif.) notched five hits, including one triple, with four RBI and four runs scored, in three victories against South Carolina State.

Denise Anderson (FAMU) belted one home run and drove in three in a 12-0 win over North Carolina A&T State.

Devon Bitler (NSU) registered a .500 batting average (2-for-4), including one RBI and one triple in a 5-4 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Samantha Casarez (UMES) went 3-for-4 from the plate, with one RBI and one run, in a 7-6 loss to Coppin State.

Adrienne Guerra (UMES) struck out a career-high 13 batters in a one-hit shutout against Norfolk State.

Taylor Haller (CSU) drove in one run, while going 2-for-4 from the plate, in a 7-6 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Amanda Hallman (SSU) scattered seven hits, with four strikeouts, in a complete game victory over North Carolina Central.

Brianna Harris (SSU) went 2-for-3 from the plate, including a double, in a 7-3 win against North Carolina Central.

Alexis Hudson (UMES) tallied two hits, including one triple, with two RBI and one run, in a 16-11 loss to Coppin State.

Morgan King (UMES) belted one home run, with three RBI in a 12-0 win against North Carolina A&T State.

Marissa Marrero (NSU) notched a 13-1 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, allowing two hits and one unearned run, in 5.0 innings pitched.

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) scattered eight hits, with six strikeouts, in 12.0 innings pitched, to record two wins over North Carolina A&T State.

Candice Van Horn (CSU) tallied three hits, including one double, with two RBI, and two runs scored in a 16-11 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
