Norfolk State to take on Hampton on ESPNU

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State Spartans will take on the Hampton Lady Pirates during a nationally televised broadcast Friday, May 1 on ESPNU and on ESPN3. The game will air live from the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium in Hampton, Virginia beginning at 3 p.m. EST.

The broadcast marks the 10th consecutive season the MEAC has televised a softball game on an ESPN platform.

Norfolk State (12-22) is currently 11-4 in MEAC play. Senior Alina Moriarty paces the Spartans attack with eight doubles, four home runs, three triples and 21 RBI. In 107 appearances at the plate, Moriarty has tallied 39 hits and a .364 batting average. Senior Liz Riley is 4-10 in the circle with 89 strikeouts in 104.1 innings.

The Hampton Lady Pirates are 18-22 overall and 10-4 in the MEAC. Margaret Wilkins leads the Lady Pirates offensively with a .372 batting average, including 31 runs, six doubles, one triple and one home run in 38 games. Freshman Allyson Babinsack is 13-9 this season with a 2.98 ERA in 131.1 innings pitched.

The 2015 MEAC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 7-9, 2015 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, in Ormond Beach, Florida.  The top four teams in each division will compete against one another in the double-elimination tournament.
