MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State’s Amber Hallman was selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Norfolk State’s Liz Riley earned Pitcher of the Week, while Hampton’s Allyson Babinsack earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Hallman (3B, 5-6, Sr., Kennesaw, Ga.) registered a .750 batting average (6-for-8), including one home run and one double, with five RBI and two runs scored against Bethune-Cookman. Defensively, she recorded seven assists and one put-out, without an error.

Riley (P, 5-7, Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) tossed 14.0 scoreless innings, with five hits allowed and striking out 12. She earned a pair of wins in a series sweep over Coppin State.

Babinsack (P, 5-11, Fr., Hampton, Va.) went 6-for12 at the plate, with two doubles and five runs scored against Liberty and Coppin State. On the mound, she worked 19.0 innings, scattering 23 hits in four games, with 15 strikeouts.

Zina Constancia (MSU) drove in three runs, while going 3-for-3 from the plate, including one home run, in an 8-5 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Al’Asia Davis (Howard) belted one home run, while driving in four runs, in a 13-6 loss to Delaware State.

Amber Fullwood (FAMU) registered seven hits, including two doubles, in a three-game sweep of South Carolina State.

Tesharra Hill (UMES) went 3-for-4 from the plate, including one home run and one double, in a 4-3 loss to Morgan State.

Brianna Harris (SSU) notched two hits and two runs scored in an 11-6 win over Bethune-Cookman.

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings and allowed one hit in a win over South Carolina State.

Seana Moriarty (NSU) recorded two hits, with two runs and one RBI, in a 7-0 victory over Coppin State.

Ciara Schnyder (UMES) went 3-for-3 from the plate, including two doubles, in a 4-3 loss to Morgan State.

Jordan Stamps (DSU) recorded six RBI and scored twice in a three-game sweep of Howard. 

Tara Tursellino (DSU) earned two victories and one save against Howard, allowing four earned runs, in 16.2 innings pitched.

Vanessa Washington (DSU) belted one home run and drove in three runs in a 13-6 victory against Howard.

Whitney Williams (NSU) registered two hits, including one home run and one double, in a 7-0 win over Coppin State.
