MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State’s Sandy Hawthorne earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Teammates Tara Tursellino was selected the Pitcher of the Week, while Vanessa Washington earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Hawthorne (C, 5-7, Jr., Smithstown, N.Y.) batted .600 (9-for-15) against Coppin State, Morgan State and Norfolk State. She registered three multi-hit games, including a 2-for-2 performance with two doubles, in a 12-0 win over Morgan State.

Tursellino (P, 5-6, So., Moreno Valley, Calif.) went 4-0 on the mound, including tossing her first career no-hitter, in a 12-0 victory over Morgan State. She registered 16 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched.

Washington (1B, 5-6, Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) went 10-for-20 (.500) and slugged .850 in five victories over Coppin State, Morgan State and Norfolk State. She went 4-for-5, with two runs scored, one double and four RBI, in a 14-9 win against Norfolk State.

Allison Anderson (UMES) went 2-for-3, with one double and two RBI, in a 5-1 victory against Hampton.

Sabrina Anguiano (B-CU) fanned nine batters, in 16.0 innings pitched, in a three-game series against North Carolina A&T State.

Imani Ballard (HOW) registered two hits and drove in three runs in a 16-14 win over Morgan State.

Alejandra Barcenas (NCAT) went 3-for-5, with two runs scored, in a 9-5 victory against Bethune-Cookman.

Samantha Casarez (UMES) batted .447 (7-for-15), with three RBI, against South Carolina State and Hampton.

Zina Constancia (MSU) registered five hits, including one double, in a three-game series against Howard.

Sommer Di Fulgo (NSU) recorded six hits and scored three times against Longwood and Delaware State.

Adrienne Guerra (UMES) registered 26 strikeouts, including 10 in a 3-0 victory against South Carolina State.

Janika May (NCAT) held Bethune-Cookman to three hits and struck out three in a 9-5 win.

Danielle Pitpit (MSU) went 6-for-10, with five runs scored and five RBI, against Howard.

Calesha Shelley (B-CU) batted .363 (4-for-11) and stole three bases in a three-game series against North Carolina A&T State.
