WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team is in third place out of 15 teams at The Boilermaker, hosted by Purdue, in West Lafayette, Ind., at the Kampen Course on Saturday.
The Jaguars started on the front nine in round one of their fifth event of the spring on the par-72, 7,465-yard course. Maverick Antcliff, Robin Petersson, Viktor Edin, Jake Marriott, and Cody Shafer made up the starting five for the Jags.
The Jaguars shot 284 and 290 in rounds one and two and are two-under par overall with one more round remaining. No. 6 Illinois ran away from the field in the opening day of play – leading the event at 32-under par. Louisville is in second at 15-under par and all the teams have one more day of 18 holes to go.
Sophomore Jake Marriott is tied for seventh overall and leading the Jags with back-to-back 70’s (-2). He had six birdies in round two to pace the squad at four-under par, while Maverick Antcliff finished inside in the top 20 in a tie for 19th at even par. Antcliff shot 71 (-1) and 73 (+1) in his opening two rounds.
Robin Petersson and Viktor Edin are tied for 21st together at one-above par. Petersson posted a 70 (-2) in round one and a 75 (+3) in round two, as his teammate Edin shot 73 (+1) and even-par 72. Cody Shafer rounded out the Jags at 10-over par with a 79 (+7) and 75 (+3).
The event concludes tomorrow with the final set of 18 holes. Teams will tee off in shotgun format due to the threat of weather.
