WICHITA, Kan. – The North Carolina A&T State women’s bowling team advanced to the championship match of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships, Friday evening at Northrock Lanes, in Wichita, Kan.
North Carolina A&T State went 3-0 in Friday's bracket play and will face ninth-seeded Robert Morris in Saturday's championship at 11 a.m.
"The team's performance today was unbelievable,” said head coach James Williams. “To battle as hard as they did was remarkable. The growth that these young ladies have shown over the last couple of weeks has been a true testament to their hard work and determination.”
On Friday, North Carolina A&T State faced No. 7 St. Francis in a quarterfinal match where it came out on top with a 4-3 win to advance to the semifinals against St. Francis who advanced out of the loser’s bracket. In the semifinal match, the Aggies didn’t even allow St. Francis to get within reach as it cruised to a 4-0 win to advance to the championship.
North Carolina A&T State had a strong showing during the first two days of the competition. After spending the first half of Thursday in 24 qualifying rounds, the Aggies tabbed the sixth seed with a pinfall of 4,483.
On Thursday evening, NCAT opened bracket play which featured the best four-of-seven baker games, with a 4-0 win over 11th-seeded Wright State. The Aggies closed out the night with a down to the wire 4-3 victory over No. 3 McKendree.
