LADY EAGLES WIN ON SENIOR DAY SWEEPING MOUNT OLIVE
DURHAM, N.C. – Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood made their final home match even more memorable with a pair of straight-set wins in leading the North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team to a 7-0 non-conference win over University of Mount Olive on Sunday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The two Lady Eagle seniors were honored by their fellow coaches and teammates before they took the court together as doubles partners. Nekrasova and Wood went on to win 8-2 to help the Lady Eagles secure the doubles point and set the tone for the match in favor of the Maroon and Gray.
Wood (6-3, 6-2), Nekrasova (6-1, 6-1) and junior Mia Ramic (6-3, 6-0) all won quickly in their No. 2-4, singles matches, respectively, to seal the Lady Eagles team victory.
Nekrasova (15-7) and Wood (12-9) have been staples in NCCU’s lineup all four years and more impressively have posted winning singles records for their collegiate careers. Nekrasova is a combinted 46-31 in singles and Wood follows closely at 43-33 as they head into postseason play.
NCCU (8-14 Overall) – winners of three of its last four matches – got confirmation Sunday that its season will continue and the Lady Eagles will advance to the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships as the No. 4 seed from the Southern Division. NCCU will play the top seed from the Northern Division, Howard University, in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 16 at 8:30 p.m. in Cayce, South Carolina.

HAWKS END SEASON WITH LOSS TO SALISBURY
SALISBURY, Md. – On a warm day for tennis, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men’s Tennis Team concluded its 2015 campaign against route 13 rival Salisbury. The squad’s season ended on a bitter note as they lost to the Seagulls, 9-0. With the loss, UMES ends the season 0-9 overall. For Salisbury, they moved to 13-4 on the season.
In doubles, the Seagulls won both matches. Maryland Eastern Shore battled, but were defeated, 8-0, respectively.
In singles, the Hawks fought valiantly; however, Salisbury was too much. Newcomer Michael Cha (Seoul, Korea) served as the team’s No. 1 and scored two points before falling to Shanon Gunther in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). Cha’s teammates, Nicholas Brobst, Edwin Kanu and Devin Outten, also fell in consecutive sets (6-0, 6-0).
For the Hawks, they look to build from this season with a year under their belt. Next season, the club looks to compete for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Title.
