N.C. Central Splits Doubleheader Against S.C. State
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University softball team used the long ball to win game one 9-3 but six errors in the second game cost the Lady Eagles the doubleheader sweep as South Carolina State University won 8-3 to complete play on Saturday afternoon at Parkwood Athletic Field.
NCCU finished with an 11-4 hit surplus with Casey Hargett, Martha Batie and junior Kayleigh Brueck all hitting safely twice.
The visitors led grew to 8-2 with one run in the fifth and three unearned tallies in the sixth due to three errors by the Lady Eagles. NCCU made a total of 11 errors in the doubleheader.
An RBI-double in the seventh by junior pinch hitter Demiree Briones accounted for the Lady Eagles final run. Junior Angelique Perricelli had a RBI-single in the second to highlight NCCU’s early runs. Hargett led off the first with a single to extend her hit streak to seven games. Six different Lady Eagles had a hit but NCCU was outhit 11-6.
Junior London Booker (8-12) took the loss despite only three of her five runs allowed over the first five innings being earned.

Pair of Wild Finishes Fall in Favor of NSU in Sweep of MSU
BALTIMORE, Md. – Norfolk State survived two different crazy endings in its doubleheader against Morgan State on Saturday afternoon, and the Spartan softball team came away with a pair of one-run victories over the Bears at Lois T. Murray Field.
NSU earned a 7-6 victory in 10 innings in the first game and then won game 2, 6-5. Both times, Morgan State scored four runs in the bottom of the last inning to force the Spartans to sweat out the wins. And both times, MSU had the winning run on base but was unable to even tie it up, including in the second game when the Bears had the winning run on second with no outs.
NSU had 21 hits on the day, including five from Whitney Williams and four off the bat of Megan Przeslawski. Williams went 4-for-5 in the first game with two runs and two RBI. Przeslawski went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs in the first game. Both players also had three doubles over the course of the day.
The two teams will finish out the series on Sunday at noon.

Softball Splits Doubleheader at Howard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hampton University softball team split a doubleheader against rival Howard on Saturday, winning the first game 2-0 before falling 8-1 in the second game.
The Lady Pirates (13-18, 5-2 MEAC) have won eight of their last 10 games.
Allyson Babinsack led the way with two of Hampton’s eight hits in the first game, and she struck out seven batters in seven innings to pick up her 10th win of the season.
That momentum carried into the second game, as the Lady Pirates got on the board in the top of the first inning when junior Taylor McCoy singled to bring home Wilkins and give Hampton a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Pirates will wrap up the Howard series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
