DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Maria Sablina celebrated both Senior Day and her birthday with a singles and doubles victory as Bethune-Cookman (19-6 overall, 6-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) clinched the Southern Division No. 1 seed for next week’s conference tournament with a 6-1 regular season finale victory over Florida A&M Friday.
Four-year seniors Gaby Chinchilla and Chintasu Kajiwara finished undefeated careers against the Rattlers (7-11,4-2) by adding a doubles and singles victory, respectively. Mina Matsuba and Maria Garoz-Mareno won in both singles and doubles.
B-CU Men's Tennis: Bethune-Cookman celebrated Senior Day Friday with Senior Diego Garavito’s win at No. 6 singles clinching the Wildcats’ 5-2 victory over Florida A&M at City Island Tennis Center.
The 3-6,6-2,6-1 decision over Joel Ovonlen-James by Garavito helped the Wildcats (13-12 overall, 4-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) beat the Ratters for the first time in Head Coach Tim Pleasant’s four-year tenure as well as post the team’s first winning regular season since 2009.
Garavito also had a doubles victory with Greg Almeida, who registered the first singles point of the day for B-CU. Alexander Chepik and Walid Gtari also had a singes and doubles victory for the Wildcats in their regular season finale.
