NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Daniel Grauel and Bethune-Cookman’s Mina Matsuba were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Norfolk State’s Antonio Pejic and Dajana Cvjetkovic were selected as the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Rookies of the Week.
Grauel (Sr., Munich, Germany) finished the week with a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 4 singles positions against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.
Matsuba (So., Mie, Japan) registered two singles and three doubles wins against Northern Kentucky, Georgia Southern and Savannah State. She won in straight sets at No. 1 singles over Northern Kentucky’s Hailey Shanahan and picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Georgia Southern’s Jordana Klein.
Antonio Pejic (Fr., Dubrovnik, Croatia) dropped just two games in four sets, while playing at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles positions, against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.
Cvjetkovic (Fr., Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina) secured a singles victory in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while playing at the No. 1 position, over Maryland Eastern Shore’s Melequa King.
Other Top Performers:
Maria Garoz-Mareno (B-CU) captured two singles wins and one doubles victory against Northern Kentucky and Savannah State.
Liza Gordeeva (NSU) registered a straight sets victory over Maryland Eastern Shore’s Petra Jerabkova at No. 2 singles.
DaTonya Price (UMES) secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Coppin State.
Duk Young-Park (MSU) won at No. 2 singles over Colgate’s Alan Pleat, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Evan Ward at No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 victory.
