NCCU Men's Tennis Nearly Perfect in 7-0 Sweep Over UMES  

PETERSBURG, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team won 76 of 77 games played to coast to a 7-0 non-conference victory over fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe University of Maryland Eastern Shore in a neutral site duel on the campus of Virginia State University Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles, who have won four of their last six matches, improved to 7-8 overall. The Hawks had to forfeit the bottom singles and doubles matches with an active roster of five before slipping to 0-3.

Senior Daniil Gerasimov, sophomore William East, senior Tamina Kienka and junior Thomas Persico all disposed of their opposition by matching unblemished 6-0, 6-0 scores. Gerasimov (13-1) continued his impressive final season with his 13th straight win. East (10-5) reached the 10-win plateau while Persico (4-5) and Kienka (3-6) both got back into the win column.

The Eagles rolled to a pair of 8-0 wins in the top two doubles matches. East partnered with Kienka on the first court and senior Jamal Hoyte teamed up with sophomore Kyle Hairston in the second match.

NCCU next visits local Shaw University for a 1 p.m. match in Raleigh on Thursday.

Bethune-Cookman 6 Delaware 1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman snapped a three-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over Delaware Tuesday afternoon at City Island Tennis Center.

Alexander Chepik returned to the singles line-up and registered both a singles and victories as a still shorthanded Wildcat squad improved to 12-11. Chepik hadn’t played single since March 16.
The Wildcats set the stage for a key match Thursday with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe South Carolina State, the perennial champions. The Wildcats and South Carolina State both have 3-0 records in conference play.

After taking the doubles points, B-CU ran off singles victories from Chepik, Diego Garavito and Greg Almeida to clinch the victory.

Garavito and Almeida each registered their tenth singles victory of the season.
