NCCU Softball Picks Up Two More Wins in the Tiny Lassiter Invite
IRONDALE, Ala. – Senior Tiphani Jackson hustled around the diamond on a four-base error to score the walk-off run for the North Carolina Central University softball team to cap a perfect 2-0 Sunday for the Lady Eagles in the Tiny Lassiter Invitational at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex near Birmingham.
NCCU departs Alabama going 3-1 in the event to even its record at 5-5. The Lady Eagles will carry a three-game win streak into its first home doubleheader of the season. After several cancellations and postponed games due to inclement weather, NCCU will host Norfolk State University on Tuesday, March 10 with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
Junior right fielder Casey Hargett led the Lady Eagles offensively with four hits and four runs from the leadoff position. Senior catcher Emily Germ and junior designated hitter Demiree Briones all added three hits. Germ had a team-high three RBI.

SOFTBALL GETS FIRST WIN OF SEASON AT ELON TOURNEY
ELON, N.C. – The Hampton University softball team picked up its first win of the season in the Elon Softball Tournament, which took place Saturday and Sunday at Hunt Softball Park.The Lady Pirates are now 1-9 on the season.
Game 1: Central Connecticut State 3, Hampton 1: Saturday’s action opened with a 3-1 loss to Central Connecticut, even though the Lady Pirates led 1-0 after the bottom of the third inning, when junior Diamond Ponds (Riverside, Calif.) scored on an error following a single to right center field from junior Taylor McCoy (Riverview, Fla.).
Game 2: Hampton 1, Lafayette 0: Babinsack picked up her first career win as a pitcher, striking out three in seven innings and giving up just three hits. Hampton had just two hits in Saturday’s second game, but the Lady Pirates won in walkoff fashion.
Game 3: Central Connecticut State 10, Hampton 5: The Lady Pirates kicked off Sunday by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, loading the bases before McCoy scored the game’s first run on a bases-loaded walk to freshman Jada Fields (Woodland Park, N.J.).
Game 4: Elon 4, Hampton 3 (nine innings): After Elon scored a run in the bottom of the first inning in Sunday’s second game, the Lady Pirates tied the game in the top of the second following a home run to left field from sophomore Danielle Budden (Jackson, N.J.), her first of the season.
The Lady Pirates will be in Winter Haven, Fla. Tuesday through Saturday for the Rebel Games.

Spartans Fall Twice More on Sunday
WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Norfolk State softball team scored early in its first game on Sunday, but the Spartans were held scoreless for the rest of the day in a pair of losses to Youngstown State and UNC Wilmington at the University Area Hampton Inn Showcase.
Seahawk starter Peyton Jordan (3-1) struck out four and gave up just two hits in seven innings against the Spartans in a mid-afternoon contest.
The Spartans will play a doubleheader at North Carolina Central on Tuesday before returning home to host George Washington on Thursday at 1 p.m. for a pair of games and the first ones this season at home for NSU.
