HAWKS’ SERAUS EARNS FOURTH ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR

DANBURY, Conn.— For the fourth time this season, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior newcomer Thashaina Seraus was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Week for bowling.

Seraus helped guide the Hawks to a seventh straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division Championship. Along the way she threw 60 strikes in 100 total frames and made 22-of-25 single-pin spares. In team games, Seraus averaged 218 pins and closed out every 10th frame, knocking down 1,090 total pins.  A 236 against Howard was the best game of her consistent day.

As UMES clinched the northern division title, they did it going 9-1, improving their conference record to 29-1 on the season and 74-39 overall. They will enter the MEAC Championships later this month as the No. 1 overall team in Chesapeake, Va., bowling for their eighth conference championship.

Before the MEAC Championships they will compete in the ECAC Championships in Elmwood, N.J., hoping to unseat the reigning champions and No. 2 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson Knights.

This weekend the Hawks will brave the winter weather for their final regular season tournament, the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
