NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University sophomore guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas and freshman forward Kaylah Lupoe each earned weekly awards from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), which were announced on Tuesday.
Tate-DeFreitas was named ECAC South Div. I Co-Player of the Week, while Lupoe earned ECAC South Div. I Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Tate-DeFreitas scored a career-high 39 points in this past Saturday’s 106-57 win at rival Howard, going a career-best 16-for-24 from the floor while also grabbing five rebounds and coming up with three steals. It was her third 30-point game of the season.
She also had 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a 69-44 win over Coppin State on Feb. 23.
Lupoe averaged 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in wins over Coppin State and Howard. She recorded a career-high 20 points and 13 rebounds, with four steals and one block, at Howard this past Saturday.
