MYERS CHOSEN FOR FIRST TEAM ALL-DISTRICT BY NABC

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Mike Myers, senior forward on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team, was selected to the NABC First Team All-District, announced on Friday, March 27. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) chose Myers as one of the top five performers from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Myers was the catalyst for the incredible turnaround for the UMES men's basketball program this year. The Hawks put together their best season in 41 years, with 18 victories and a postseason berth to the CIT. The success was thanks in large part to the senior forward Myers, who led the team in both scoring (15.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game). The senior finished the season with the third-most free throw attempts in the nation (282) and eleventh in the NCAA in field goal percentage (59.3%). Myers is currently a finalist for the Lou Henson Award for the National Mid-Major Player of the Year, given out by CollegeInsider.com. The Camden, N.J. native has been recognized for his fantastic season, including All-MEAC honors from the league and several publications.

Member coaches of the NABC voted for the top student-athletes to represent their respective districts, which closely align with the Division I conferences. There are 25 districts in total, with the 13 member schools of the MEAC comprising District 15. Myers was selected to First Team All-District, joining Jordan Parks (N.C. Central), James Carlton (Howard), Amere May (Delaware State) and Jeff Short (Norfolk State) in representing District 15. LeVelle Moton of North Carolina Central was selected as the All-District Coach, though Bobby Collins of UMES won MEAC Coach of the Year in the official league honors.
